Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate is used together with other medicines to treat conditions caused by excessive acidity in your stomach such as ulcers in the stomach or duodenum (upper portion of the small intestine).
This medicine treats these conditions by reducing the amount of acid your stomach makes.
Take Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take this medicine with food or immediately after a meal. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
You may need to take this medicine for some time before the full benefits can be felt. It must be taken regularly for it to be effective.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have moderate to severe kidney disease or a history of porphyria (an inherited disorder that may cause skin or nerve problems) as Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate may cause any of the following side effects: headache, blackening of the tongue or stool, stomach pain or discomfort and skin itch or rashes.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- antibiotics e.g. clarithromycin
- blood-thinning medicines e.g. aspirin
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
